She Belongs on the Diamond: Why We’re Expanding Opportunities for Girls

I grew up on a ball field. Baseball and softball shaped me in ways I am still grateful for today. They taught me how to compete, how to lead, how to fail, and how to pick myself up again. They taught me how to trust my body, use my voice and work as part of a team. Most of all, they gave me a sense of belonging that carried me well beyond the diamond.

That experience is a big part of why I started Field of Dreams, and it is a huge reason why expanding opportunities for girls has become so important to me. I know what this sport gave me, and I want every girl who walks through our doors to feel that same sense of possibility.

Over the years, we’ve proudly run co-ed camps and welcomed so many girls who love the game. But I’ve come to better understand that while co-ed environments work well for some, they’re not always where every girl feels most confident, especially when trying something new.

And confidence changes everything.

For many girls, confidence can be harder to build in mixed settings. Some feel overshadowed. Others hesitate to take risks or worry about making mistakes. I remember feeling that way at times too, and I also remember how powerful it was to have coaches and teammates who believed in me.

That’s what led me to expand our girls-only programming.

These programs are designed to give girls a space where they can show up fully as themselves, where they feel comfortable to try, to fail, to ask questions, and to grow. A space where they’re not just participating, but truly building confidence.

Because when a girl builds confidence on the field, it carries into everything else: school, friendships, and life.

These programs are not about replacing our co-ed camps. They are about creating more opportunities and meeting athletes where they are in their journey.

I believe strongly that girls belong on the diamond, and they deserve spaces that help them see that too.

If you have a daughter who wants to try baseball or softball, or one who is already in love with the game, I hope you will take a look at our Girls Softball Hitting and Fielding Winter Clinic and our Girls-Only Summer Camps. These programs were created with intention, care and a whole lot of heart. I cannot wait to see these girls step onto the field with confidence, courage and joy.

This is just the beginning. The future for girls in baseball and softball is bright, and I am honoured to help build the path forward.
