The Person Behind Field of Dreams Baseball Camp

If you’ve ever emailed, called, registered for a program, received a newsletter, signed up for camp, attended a training session, or had a question answered by Field of Dreams Baseball Camp, there’s a very good chance you’ve been dealing with… me.

And if you’ve ever had to wait a little longer than you’d like for a reply, I want to start by saying thank you for your patience.

Customer service is incredibly important to me. I know when you’re registering your child for a camp or program, you want answers, information, and reassurance. I always strive to provide that. But I also wanted to take a moment to share a little bit about what happens behind the scenes and what my role at Field of Dreams Baseball Camp actually looks like.

More Than Just Summer Camp

When most people think of camp, they picture the fun stuff: baseball games, drills, tournaments, theme days, smiling campers, and incredible staff members creating memories.

I think about those things too.

But before any of that can happen, there are thousands of hours of work happening behind the scenes.

While I’m fortunate to have an amazing team of instructors and staff who help bring our programs to life, much of the planning, organizing, and administration falls on my shoulders.

In many ways, Field of Dreams is a one-woman operation.

What Exactly Do I Do?

The short answer?

Almost everything.

Throughout the year, I:

  • Design and create new camps, clinics, leagues, tournaments, and training programs
  • Plan for future growth and expansion
  • Build budgets and manage finances
  • Process registrations
  • Set up and maintain registration systems
  • Update our website
  • Send newsletters and registration reminders
  • Communicate with hundreds of families
  • Obtain permits and insurance
  • Hire, schedule, and manage more than 60 staff members
  • Coordinate staff onboarding and requirements
  • Create staff manuals and training resources
  • Organize staff training days and meetings
  • Develop quizzes, icebreakers, activities, and team-building exercises
  • Run training programs in person throughout the year
  • Handle payroll
  • Complete evaluations and reflective reports
  • Respond to emails and phone calls
  • And about 100 other things that I’m probably forgetting right now.

By the time summer arrives, months of planning have already gone into creating the experience your child will have.

Then There’s My Most Important Job

A few years ago, I added another title to my resume:

Mom.

And it quickly became my favourite one.

Like many parents, I spend a lot of time trying to balance work and family. My little guy is currently in a half-day school program, which means I have a limited window during the day to accomplish as much as possible before switching into mom mode.

Many evenings, after he’s asleep, I’m back at my computer answering emails, planning programs, reviewing registrations, scheduling staff, or preparing for the next camp season.

Some days I feel on top of everything.

Other days I feel like I’m playing catch-up.

Most days, it’s probably a little bit of both.

Why I Care So Much

The reason I put so much into this camp is simple.

I genuinely care.

Field of Dreams Baseball Camp isn’t just a business to me. It’s something I’ve poured my heart into for more than 15 years.

Every decision I make comes back to one question:

“Will this help create a better experience for the kids?”

Whether it’s hiring the right staff, creating fun theme days, planning training sessions, investing in equipment, developing new programs, or answering a parent’s question, my goal is always the same: to give your child the best possible experience.

A Small Request

If you’ve ever wondered why I didn’t respond to an email immediately or why it took me a little longer than expected to return a phone call, I hope this gives you a bit of insight into what life looks like behind the scenes.

I’m not ignoring you.

I’m probably juggling a registration issue, updating camp schedules, training staff, running a clinic, preparing newsletters, organizing permits, solving a problem, making dinner, helping with bedtime, or some combination of all of the above.

I know there are areas where I can improve, and timely communication is one of them. It’s something I continue to work on every year because I know how important it is.

But I also hope you’ll know that every email, phone call, registration, question, and concern matters to me.

Thank You

Field of Dreams Baseball Camp has grown because of the incredible families who trust us with their children year after year.

I never take that trust for granted.

So thank you for your patience, your support, your understanding, and for allowing us to be part of your child’s baseball journey.

While I may not always reply as quickly as I’d like, please know that behind every camp, clinic, tournament, and program is someone working incredibly hard to create the best experience possible for your child.

And for me, that’s always worth the effort.
