While we take so much pleasure rejoicing in our milestones, as well as your family’s milestones’, we also do our best to support our Field of Dreams families in times of crisis and tragedy.
This past December, the Field of Dreams family lost someone very near and dear to our hearts – Dan Lehmkuhl. Dan’s passing was sudden and tragic and needless to say we’re still in shock.
Dan has been part of the York Region baseball community for decades, and the Field of Dreams founders and some of our staff were lucky enough to call him a friend.
In fact, our Director Nolan Revin coached Dan on the Ontario Maple Leafs Elite Baseball Team when he was just 17 years old, and they had stayed friends ever since. Beyond being close with our own personal family, Dan and his wife Laura were part of the Field of Dreams camp family as well. Their son, Jackson, had attended the Aurora camp, and we’ve always loved having him.
Jackson is a special guy, and definitely inherited his Dad’s love of baseball, so it means so much to us to be able to help keep that going now that he’s gone.
In that same spirit, we knew that we needed to do something to keep Dan’s memory alive for generations to come. Since Dan grew up playing baseball for the Aurora Jays, and his son was a part of our Aurora camp community, we have created a scholarship in Dan’s name, called the Dan Lehmkuhl Memorial FOD Camp Scholarship, that will help send a deserving child in need to our Aurora summer camp each year.
We know that baseball was such a huge part of Dan’s life, and we felt that this scholarship was the best way to honour him. If we can touch the lives of our recipients, and they too fall in love with the game, we know that it would have made him so proud.
Thanks for everything, Dan. We’re lucky to have been on your team.
